Kinitiras Chorotheama
Kinitiras Chorotheama:
- was founded in 1996 by people from the fields of dance, theatre and visual arts.
- has established the word “chorotheama” in our country, with which it has been identified.
- is characterized by the emphasis it places on the theatrical character of the dance. Speech and movement are key elements.
- handles body language in a unique way.
- is based on the theories of Rudolf Laban, Augusto Boal and the theatre of Invention (Devised theatre).
The company’s productions are distinguished by their contemporary but narrative approach to the subjects, sarcasm and black humor. It has been repeatedly funded by the Greek Ministry of Culture and by the Youth and Lifelong Learning Foundation (INEDIVIM), the J. F. Costopoulos Foundation, the European Union, EOMEXX, etc.
In recent years, KINITIRAS has been working with a core group of artists, who collaborate by exchanging roles in interpretation, creation and production, depending on the needs of each performance. KINITIRAS encourages young creators from the group to present their work and develop their creative ideas. Great dance and theatre artists have been born through the womb of KINITIRAS (Amalia Bennett, Martha Kloukina, Katerina Skiada, Aris Servetalis, Paris Erotokritou, etc.).
Since 2012, KINITIRAS has created the action SURPRISE which brings dance and physical theatre to primary and secondary education through performances for children and workshops for teachers (www.ekplixi.com). Also, since 2017, it participates in Erasmus+ youth exchange programs in which young people from Greece and EU countries work through dance and theatre on social issues such as homophobia, refugees, etc.
