Kinitiras, in the context of this year’s thematic umbrella “Spirituality”, presented from November 9 to December 29, the interactive walking performance by Antigone Gyra “Sunset in Voula”. Antigone, will repeat, for 4 Sundays, when the Spring comes, the meditative walk on the beach and the streets of Voula at sunset.

A small sea? A journey of daily crash? A hidden open dance? A deafening silence? An orbit of the ego? An ode to beauty, freedom, peace, democracy? A song? A bride? A loneliness among many? A spell for human suffering? A recitation? A breath in the roar of the city? A hug? A groom? A great sea?

In the coastal road and the wider area of the southern suburbs, major redevelopment projects of the Athenian Riviera, the skyscrapers, the casino and the underground tunnel are being prepared at a rapid pace. Goodbye evening walk on the beach with the windows down and the music on top, goodbye small cottages with gardens and dogs. Antigone Gyra creates a strange creature and transforms into it as she shares, just before the end of a whole season, a whimsical walk full of little surprises in the neighborhood she grew up in, where she lives, where she knows every inch of it.

And while living in the southern suburbs, despite its privileged nature, is becoming more and more economically and socially prohibitive, “Sunset in Voula” is a walk – an artistic intervention by Kinitiras in the public space, inviting the public to a small but unforgettable experience of sharing the beauty that surrounds us: Dance, Poetry, Literature, Experiential games but also silence and observation, moments of breathing and rest, in a dynamic and often subversive relationship between spectator and performer, which will co-create a unique artistic result each time.
