Kinitiras celebrates 30 years of continuous presence on stage, in the streets, in classrooms, in Greece and abroad. It inaugurates its anniversary celebrations by bringing Dionysios Solomos’ masterpiece “The Woman of Zakynthos” to one of the oldest and most beautiful cafes in Athens.

Following the success and sold-out performances of the first cycle, the audience will have the opportunity to share this experience every Friday on February and March 2026. Sipping wine, beer, or tea along with Mrs. Pagona’s appetizers, viewers are invited to a total experience that activates all the senses.

The creative group approaches “The Woman of Zakynthos” as a dark, terrifying fairy tale for adults, which, through the narration of Dionysios, tells a personal story, that of the Woman of Zakynthos, but also one of the darkest moments in Greek history: the fall of Mesologgi. References to contemporary reality, social inequality, refugees, madness, and the need to return to our deepest selves through different paths of spirituality and human solidarity form the basis for Kinitiras’ approach.

Aliki Avdelopoulou and Dimitris Agoras follow the intense rhythm of the text, reading with their whole bodies, singing, and alternating roles throughout the performance. The text dialogues with collective eternal memories as well as the personal memories of the performers, interspersed with excerpts from other works by Solomos (The Free Besieged and The Poisoned Woman). At the same time, through the commentary of journalist Konstantinos Poulis and the music of rapper Anser, the performance dynamically engages with the present day.

Humor and sadness are revealed in “The Woman of Zakynthos,” speaking of injustice and human wickedness with harsh and satirical language. A poetic work that Solomos never finished, as he never finished most of his works. The belief in continuous, endless research, no matter how many years go by, connects Kinitiras and its presence with the deeply reflective mood of the great poet.
