“Rose Dialogue”

Kinitiras hosts an improvisational performance by the Spanish Butoh dancer Marianela León and the musician George Kokkinaris.

Over the red roses, the rain falls
big drops – falling down fast
to save the flowers I remove the petals
i put them inside my pockets with care
with the one hand I grasp the stem thorns
with the other I fondle the thorns cause the scratch the skin
I spread my wounded hand to you
You don’t look at it, pretending that you don’t see it
I draw my hand back
I hide it in my pocket,
outside everywhere is mud
and the world is laughing as staring at thornless stems
You don’t know that blood flows on the petals

Marianela León  is a Butoh dancer and visual artist. She particularly shares Moeno Wakamatsu and Masaki Iwana’s approach. She has also worked with Monica Valenciano, expanded butoh. She has performed in many festivals, theaters, art galleries and open air spaces of Spain, France, England, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Uruguay, Stony, Russia, Israel and Japan.

George Kokkinaris repertoire includes classical and contemporary music trying to show the double bass’ sound range.
His major influences are the Free Improvisors like Peter Kowald, Joeller Leandre, Barre Phillips leading him to approach the
instrument as resonating body. Currently he lives in Athens where working on free improvisation music projects and collaborations with actors and dancers.
