Actors Francisco Brito and Nandia Kavoulakou, who teach together the Art of Clown since 2008, return to Kinitras this summer for a workshop on theatrical clown.

The clown “saves his life” and makes us laugh. He is innocent like a child with incompetent mood for play. Welcomes and loves failure, problems and weaknesses, he carries a luggage full of all these tools made to bring laugh. Clown loves truly and generously with no discriminations or limits.  In this workshop, above all, we will play and love with our heart. Through team games and exercises for relaxation, concentration and trust we will create an environment which will help us to feel comfort and set free, in front of others, our spontaneous, true and “crazy” self.Afterwards, by wearing the “red nose”-the smallest mask in the world- and some elements of costume we will have our first contact with clown’s world, code, heart and spirit. Through simple exercises and techniques we will explore the particularities, imagination and humor of our spirit, our body and our voice. We will work on presence, timing, comical simplicity and will be exercised through improvisation on a basic structure in soli and duets.In the end of the workshop there will be an open presentation. Theatrical clown is a valuable tool for performing arts education, but also is a “teacher” for our lives. It reminds us to live “here” and “now” in contact with ourselves, others and life.  Gives us wisdom to celebrate the moment! Gives us space to explore who we really are. Urges us to leave behind the “idea” that we have for ourselves and offer our most bright and innocent part: the heart of a clown! Acts curatively and liberating by offering many gift to anyone who want to be in touch with his spontaneous, innocent self no matter his age or profession.

Francisco Brito studied theatre at Philippe Gaulier drama school. In his way met his teacher Tapa Sudana (Theatre and Mask) and followed his classes for many years. That meeting was crucial for his route as an actor. In 1997 established Baruti Company. With that group they travelled around the world taking part in festivals. Since 2008 is the artistic director of International Puppet-theatre Festival, at Canarian  Islands, Spain, and since 2013 artistic director of Athen’s International Puppet-theatre Festival. In 2003 he taught the Art of Theatrical Clown for the first time. After that he had the chance to share teaching with Nandia Kavoulakou and together create something more complete by giving to their students “the hole picture” and creating more effective whorkshops.

Nandia Kavoulakou graduated from Neli’s Karra Drama School “Archi” and the Philippe Gaulier International drama school in Paris, where she “met” theatrical clown. She was lucky for having teacher  Eric de Bont, one of the most important teachers of Art of  Theatrical Clown. Since 2001she works on theatre as an actress. She is one of the founders of Aller-Retour-Theatre. She has directed the theatrical performances “Hug”(in collaboration with Thanos Pritsas) and «aller-retour». Since 2013 also works with musical-theatre group “Adespotes Skyles”. She worked as a movement/dance teacher for students of  Ecole Philippe Gaulier School and also  as movement and drama  teacher for street-theatre group “Pantoum” and also in a lot of individual workshops. She is teaching the Art of Clown with Francisco Brito since 2008.
