“[..] a number of trivial coincidences and unexpected convergences turned this night into a poem.”
Nancy Huston · Dolce Agonia
The new work of Kinitiras, Deep Sigh, opening on the 9th of February, marks the unique artistic collaboration of choreographer and director Antigone Gyra, director and actress Vicky Adamou and visual artist and performer Iason Venetsanopoulos. GAV, the newly-formed artistic company, will debut with their new performance, inspired by Nancy Huston’s novel Dolce Agonia; a performance about individual and collective pain, moving from everyday and obvious aspects of life to the obscure and vague parts of human existence.
A festive day, in the beginning of the millennium, a group of mostly middle-aged friends meet around a floating table in order to eat, share and communicate. Present, past and future coexist within their actions, physical conversations and their hidden memories, whilst the divine element is acting as an observer and flux subverter.
Where is our tender-animal body hidden? How do emotions and memories create the map of our body and voice? Which is their outlet and how can they be expressed through the evolution of physical activities, such as sigh, cough, laughter, cry, flatulate, hiccup or sneeze?
Having as a starting point the thrilling novel by Nancy Huston, along with significant performers from the dance, music and performance fields, Deep Sigh deals with a humorous and self-sarcastic manner with the pain and scaring experiences that each of us is collecting throughout his life, without, however, the absence of joy.
