An interactive media installation of Joo-Kwan Song and a performance in collaboration with Barbara Bardaka.
“How do we recognize our presence?”
During this week of residency, JOO and Barbara will have a common focus on “Journey through Time” to excavate potential aesthetics for Presence in the platform of interactive installation, performance and video archives. JOO has designed an interactive digital algorithm to realize temporal superposition of past and present image frames from subjects. Different subjects in various places of Athens will be chosen for this algorithm, and all the experimentation of this work will be archived as video recordings. On the final day of the residency, JOO and Barbara will have a presentation with the field video works and an interactive performance in the studio of Kinitiras.

Joo-Kwan Song is a digital media artist from Seoul, South Korea. His works focus on creating imaginary phenomenon in an interactive way with surroundings and environments. He designs by himself digital algorithms which analyze and transform the data from subjects’ movement, action or sound to produce audiovisual output, so as to excavate hidden potential energy flow in the life, which is audible and visible in real-time. So, the works are site-specific and subject-oriented with interdisciplinary approach.
Graduated from Edinburgh University in UK with Msc of Digital composition and performance in 2013, Yonsei University in South Korea with BA of Psychology and French literature in 2005, his works range from interactive exhibition to performance and composition for theatre and screens. He has participated in international art festivals, exhibitions and performances including [Asyaaf & Hidden artist international Festival, 2018], [Seoul modern art international Festival, 2017], [Seoul New media Art international Festival, 2016], [GYLAF, South Korea], [Artwork Holiday, Paris], [Frame-reFrame, Seoul], [Modern playwriter competition, Tokyo], and etc. with 3 solo exhibitions.

Barbara Bardaka, as a performer and artistic contributor she aims at multidisciplinary collaborations, while continues her research on improvisation and composition. In 2016 Barbara completed her dance studies at SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance) in Austria, and continued her education in Spain with David Zambrano. During her studies she took part at ADVP in Athens (2014) and other festivals in Salzburg. In 2017 she became a co-founder of “Φ / 2” collective where she contributes as a dancer and choreographer and presents the works “Oroborus” at In Progress Feedback Festival 2017 at Kinitiras and “Foreign Bodies’ Experience| 51st” in Rabbit Fest 2018 at the Rabbit Hole Theater. As a performer during 2018 she has also participated in the projects of [Ergo Collective] (Latraac, Athens) and others. She is currently working as a performer with Artius Dance Theater for the production that will be presented in May 2019 in Rhodes after a grant from the Ministry of Culture and in April she is invited as a Resident Artist at Kinitiras. Finally, she graduated from Panteion University with Bachelor degree of Economic & Regional Development in 2013.
