Kinitiras, the artistic network which for two decades connects people of all ages and kinds through performing arts, starts the new season with a lot of partnerships from Greece and abroad, educational programs, performances and actions for children and adults.
In October, Kinitiras organizes two days of performances and dance videos in partnership with Miden, the famous screening platform. At the same time, last year’s winner of In Progress Feedback, the Puerto Rican Marielys Burgos Meléndez, is going to present the performance Elsewhere as a strategy of survival and a healing practice through dance. In December, Kinitiras hosts at its first happy hour the choreographer Persa Stamatopoulou and organizes its first New Year’s Eve party.
New Year starts with the solo piece of the choreographer and visual artist Florence Peake, who presents an alternative proposal for the common performance and it continues with the Residency of artists and theorists from all over the world.
Meanwhile, Kinitiras is being prepared for the In Progress Feedback Festival, in March.
Just after Easter, in collaboration with the youthful Irish theatrical agency Crooked House Theatre Company and local agencies of LGB society presents the project Indigo. Could theatre and dance provide ways of expression in sexuality, releasing it from society’s taboo and stereotypes? In May, after a year of systematic research, Kinitiras company will present the Project ΈΡΩNTAS, which together with classes, selected workshops, residencies, In Progress Feedback Festival and Indigo will talk about Eros as a necessity, revolution and motivational power for resistance. The season will be completed in July with the termination of classes and educational workshops from Greek and international artists and teachers.
Two days Performance and dance videos
October 8th and 9th
Kinitiras inaugurates the partnership with Miden (www.festivalmiden.gr), the famous video platform of art with two days of video performance and video dance where 28 pieces of work from 17 countries will be presented, in two sections, curated by Margarita Stavraki.
The first section under the title ‘Choreographies Unconscious’ is a selection of 15 video-performance and video-dance with a variety of references and extrapolations, where the physical movement is presented together with the rhythmical and stylized one.
The second section, under the title ‘Keep Moving’ presents 13 pieces with different aesthetics and conceptual approaches, which seek the reasons and the motives behind each move. A section, with adolescent, political and perhaps a sweet revolutionary mood.
Meanwhile, the last year’s In Progress Feedback Festival winner of Kinitiras, the Puerto Rican Marielys Burgos Meléndez, will present the performance Elsewhere, in October 8th at the Rizari park (metro Evangelismos) and in October 9th at Kinitiras’ studio. This performance is a self-portrait of departures through which artistic researcher, Marielys Burgos Meléndez generates her own poetic of ongoinness. Framed within her current investigation on mobility and migration, ISLA en FUGA, leaving and going elsewhere is embodied as a survival strategy and a healing practice. Presented as a dance installation Marielys reinstates her moving experiences of (dis)location and (re)location through video art, creative writing, instant devising and ritual performance.
