The SRT Introductory Level is a set of 15 carefully crafted classes in which the basic releasing principles are progressively introduced and in which the different materials overlap, refer back and evolve; a process that is web-like rather than linear.
Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) is a pioneering approach to dance, movement and creative process that has evolved from the simple principle that when we are releasing physical tension, we can move with greater freedom, power and articulation.
This is a rare opportunity to delve deeply into personal and technical movement freedoms, working with freeform movement explorations, imagery and somatic awareness. After dancing with Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham, Joan Skinner developed this work around structures of natural alignment and natural grace to support ways of moving with more ease, fluency, clarity, economy and efficiency. Promoting personal depth, truth and expression through movement and unfurling layers of ourselves, this technique supports dancers in moving with their whole mind and body while developing technical facilities of multidirectional alignment, core strength, balance, power and articulation.
Florence Peake is a London based dancer, visual artist and choreographer. Peake’s practice uses drawing, painting and sculpture materials combined with found, appropriated and fabricated objects placed in relationship to the moving body. Site and the placement of performance and audience, live and recorded text, as well as a well-developed sense of wit and humour, are key to her body of work.
Her work has been shown internationally and presented work at the National Portrait Gallery, performing group work Paper Portraits; BALTIC, Newcastle ensemble piece MAKE; Hayward Gallery- a 3 month performance installation as part of the Mirrorcity show; David Roberts Art Foundation; Yorkshire Sculpture Park; Modern Art Oxford; Chapter Arts, Cardiff, Harris Museum, Preston, Exchange, Penzance.
As a teacher she has taught extensively dance, improvisation and Choreography in the UK and internationally. She is a certified Skinner releasing teacher qualified to teach to Ongoing and Advanced levels.
