The SRT Introductory Level is a set of 15 carefully crafted classes in which the basic releasing principles are progressively introduced and in which the different materials overlap, refer back and evolve; a process that is web-like rather than linear.

Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) is a pioneering approach to dance, movement and creative process that has evolved from the simple principle that when we are releasing physical tension, we can move with greater freedom, power and articulation.

This is a rare opportunity to delve deeply into personal and technical movement freedoms, working with freeform movement explorations, imagery and somatic awareness. After dancing with Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham, Joan Skinner developed this work around structures of natural alignment and natural grace to support ways of moving with more ease, fluency, clarity, economy and efficiency. Promoting personal depth, truth and expression through movement and unfurling layers of ourselves, this technique supports dancers in moving with their whole mind and body while developing technical facilities of multidirectional alignment, core strength, balance, power and articulation.

Lizzy Le Quesne is an independent dance artist and writer; and certified teacher of SRT. Trained in dance and fine art and in a wide range of somatic practices, Lizzy works in dance, text and photography from a deeply embodied place. Her award-winning performances and screen works are presented in theatres, galleries and diverse sites. Lizzy also performs internationally with other artists including Rosemary Lee, Florence Peake, Tino Sehgal, Ricochet Dance Productions – Wally Cardona, Jan Pusch – Susanna Szperling, and countless others; and teaches companies, professional dancers and at conservatoires and academies internationally. Lizzy’s writing on art, dance, embodiment and somatics is published in numerous art magazines, journals and books, and her writing is featured on several undergraduate and postgraduate dance reading lists. She is currently writing a chapter for the upcoming first book on Skinner Releasing Technique, edited by Manny Emslie, and to be published by Triarchy Press in 2017.
