Liadain Herriott: Residency at Kinitiras

Liadain Herriott is Kinitiras’ resident artist from August 31st 2018 until September 8th 2018.
This July, Liadain premiered a new solo, On A Tangent, at the 24th edition of Kalamata Dance Festival. She is expanding upon elements from this work within the research she currently conducts in view of creating ensemble work. She is researching concepts with Christina Reinhardt and Konstantina Barkouli.
Currently in the midst of her choreographic research, envisioning the creation of ensemble work, she is occupied with the relationship between the nuances of the silent film era, in terms of the actors’ movements, and her evolving signature style as a dance maker. Captivated by the sheer sense of expression through gesture, the vivid communication, portrayed in these films, she endeavores to explore how these gestural tendencies, often exaggerated, may be integrated in the more calligraphic aspect of how she designs her work. Where does the more subtle meet the more evident? What is the oscillation that occurs between these two things? “As silent film existed without the sound of the performers’ voices, how do I as a dancer orchestrate the idea of speaking, of using my voice, by only using my corporal movement?”, Liadain.
Emerging Irish choreographer, Liadain Herriott trained originally as ballet dancer in Dublin, Monte Carlo, Madrid. Begins professional career with Cannes Jeune Ballet, ’02. Relocates to Brussels in ’04, studying/working for various choreographers/companies, transitioning from classical to contemporary style work, influenced by surrounding artistic activity/practices current in Belgium.Starts choreographing in ’09, work performed at festivals in India, Belgium,Latvia, Spain, Ireland.Selected participant for cultural exchange programs; Tour d’Europe des Jeunes Choregraphes ’10, E-Motional Bodies & Cities ’11/’12.Awarded ‘Best Performer’ by Dublin Fringe ’15 for solo work ‘Liminal’. In conjunction with solo practice recent achievement includes collaborative film work ‘Skimming Stones’. Throughout ’16, solo work ‘Liminal’ tours nationally/internationally at festivals in Ireland, Scotland, Greece, Spain, USA.
