Blaise Mangitukulu (DRC), Emilie Vaudou (FR), Marilena Sitaropoulou(GR) and Patricia Woltmann (DE) introduce themselves in their own words.
When the pandemic imposed the cancelation at first and then the redesigning of the residency, this brought significant changes in the constitution of the artists’ group. A prime concern we had was to secure for our already selected and runner up artists the possibility to have a job in the severely hit field of performing arts. The need to work in the flesh, from a distance and digitally, the availability for the new dates, as well as financial losses caused by the cancellation of the original project just a few weeks before it took place in Athens, brought significant challenges, alterations, but also, new ways to provide for the artists.
We genuinely thank the selected and runner up artists as well as the members of the selection committee of the first edition of the residency and welcome the new group. We are looking forward to watching their works.

Lorsque la pandémie a imposé l’annulation et puis la refonte de la résidence, cela a entraîné des changements importants dans la constitution du groupe d’artistes. Notre préoccupation principale était de garantir à nos artistes, déjà sélectionnés ou remplaçants, la possibilité d’avoir un emploi dans le domaine très affecté des arts de la scène.
La nécessité de travailler en présentiel, à distance et numériquement, la disponibilité pendant les nouvelles dates, ainsi que les pertes financières causées par l’annulation du projet original quelques semaines avant sa réalisation à Athènes, ont entraîné des défis importants, des changements, mais aussi, de nouvelles façons de pourvoir aux artistes.
Nous remercions sincèrement les artistes sélectionnés et remplaçants ainsi que les membres du comité de sélection de la première édition de la résidence et nous souhaitons la bienvenue au nouveau groupe. Nous sommes impatients de voir leurs œuvres.

I am a dancer, performer, dance researcher and choreographer of Fire Dance Company, resident at the French institute of Bukavu, originally from the Orientale province in DR Congo. This young passionate lover of beauty and all that is movement through rhythm, is a very good dancer of the HIP-HOP style and contemporary traditional dance, concerned about the perfection of body movements. I've been interested in dance since I was nine years old, when I started hip-hop dancing in the FORCE12 group, better at choreography and street fighting. Later I formed POKERMON in 2013, two times "BOYOMA-ART" champion, where I was elected best urban dancer and selected for a contemporary dance workshop with DORINE MOKHA, with MICHEL KIYOMBO and DJINO ALOLO at Studio Kabako in Kisangani In 2017, I was selected among the 8 best choreographers in East Africa by WESLEY RUZIBIZA to perform the piece Boléro in the Amizero company. In 2018 I was selected by the French Institute of Burundi for the 40th anniversary of the presence of the European Union. In 2019 I was among the 15 young choreographers from Africa invited to the URBAN MEETS TRADITIONAL laboratory in Kigali.
I will continue my artistic inclinations in the Residency program of Kinitiras, which should become a place of passionate meetings of people and ideas and which will also give me the opportunity to create new links with artists, while I hope that new collaborations will be constructed.

Je suis un artiste danseur, performeur, chercheur en danse et chorégraphe de la Fire Dance Company, résident à l'Institut français de Bukavu, originaire de la province Orientale en République Démocratique du Congo. Jeune amoureux et passionné du beau et de tout ce qui est mouvement en passant par le rythme, très bon danseur de HIP-HOP et de danse traditionnelle et contemporaine, soucieux de la perfection des mouvements du corps. Je m'intéresse à la danse depuis l’âge de neuf ans, quand j’ai commencé à danser le hip-hop dans le groupe FORCE12, champion en chorégraphie et en Bataille de rue. Plus tard j’ai formé POKERMON en 2013, deux fois champion "BOYOMA-ART", où j'ai été élu meilleur danseur urbain et sélectionné pour un atelier de danse contemporaine avec DORINE MOKHA, avec MICHEL KIYOMBO et DJINO ALOLO au Studio Kabako à Kisangani ; en 2017, j’ai été sélectionné parmi les 8 meilleurs chorégraphes d'Afrique de l'Est par WESLEY RUZIBIZA pour jouer la pièce Boléro avec la compagnie Amizero. En 2018 j’ai été sélectionné par l'Institut français du Burundi pour les 40 ans de la présence de l'Union Européenne. En 2019 j’étais parmi les 15 jeunes chorégraphes d'Afrique invités au laboratoire de URBAN MEETS TRADITIONAL à Kigali. Actuellement j'encadre les enfants avec mon projet KID TALENT.
Je poursuivrai mes propositions artistiques dans le programme de la Résidence Kinitiras qui devrait devenir un lieu de rencontre passionnée de personnes et d'idées et qui me donnera également la possibilité de créer de nouveaux réseaux, et j'espère mener de nouvelles collaborations.

She’s been working as an actress, performer, dancer with many directors and choreographer between France, Switzerland and Greece. She is directing many theatrical and dance workshops as well.
Starting from her work, there is always a speaking/a body isolated, marginal, at the border of normality, banned, who is claiming a form able to immerse the spectator in the mental space of figures who, as « strange » as they are, could become more « familiars » : Assis dans le couloir (co-directed) is from an erotic novel. Ici c’est pas un hôtel… (first direction) is about a psychiatric institute. Éspasa ta moutra mou ! (second directing) is an autobiographical fiction about the years she spent in Greece during the crisis.
This year, she is working on There is my little room… a research around the figure of a prostitute and Et les poissons partirent combattre les hommes by Angelica Liddell.
This residency is an opportunity to continue to explore her obsessions (transformations and limits of the body/voice, the figure of « stranger » : exile, migration, etc) and share, compare, bring them face to face with the three other artists.

Elle travaille en tant qu’actrice, performeuse, danseuse avec de nombreux metteurs en scène et chorégraphes en France, en Suisse et en Grèce. Elle dirige aussi de nombreux ateliers de théâtre et de danse.
Au départ de son travail, il y a toujours une parole/un corps isolé, marginal, à la frontière de la normalité, censuré, qui réclame une forme capable de plonger le spectateur dans l’espace de figures qui, d’"étrangères" qu’elles étaient, deviennent plus familières : Assis dans le couloir (co-mise en scène) est créé d’après une nouvelle érotique. Ici c’est pas un hôtel… (première mise en scène) traite de l’univers psychiatrique. Éspasa ta moutra mou ! (deuxième mise en scène) est une auto-fiction sur ses années de vie en Grèce pendant la crise.
Cette année, elle travaille sur There is my little room…, une recherche autour de la figure de la prostituée et sur Et les poissons partirent combattre les hommes, un texte d’Angelica Liddell.
Cette résidence est pour elle l’opportunité de continuer à explorer ses obsessions (transformations et limites du corps/de la voix, la figure de « l’étranger » : exil, migration, etc.) et de les partager, comparer et confronter avec les trois autres artistes.

Marilena Sitaropoulou

Marilena is a theatre maker and movement director from Greece. Her work identifies as devised, physical theatre. Her background is in contemporary dance and classical ballet. Marilena has a BA in Theatre Arts from The American College of Greece, a
minor in Dance and in 2019 she graduated from the MFA Advanced Theatre Practice at CSSD, London. Marilena created and performed two Solo Shows in London in the past two years. She worked with Edifice Dance Theatre, also as a movement director in fringe shows and she is now the director of ‘Sorry did I wake you’ immersive radio drama. ‘I am very excited for the new form of the residency. I feel very lucky that I will get to work with artists from different cultural backgrounds and I am sure I will learn a lot from them. Last but not least I wish for all of us, the participants, to work on one project together, on one idea with many different voices.

Marilena Sitaropoulou
Marilena est une créatrice de théâtre et metteure en scène de mouvement de Grèce. Son travail relève de la création collective, du théâtre de mouvement (physical theatre). Elle a une formation en danse contemporaine et en ballet classique. Marilena est titulaire d'une licence en arts du théâtre du Collège Américain de Grèce, option danse et en 2019, elle a obtenu son diplôme du MFA « Advanced Theatre Practice » du CSSD de Londres. Marilena a créé et présenté deux spectacles en solo à Londres au cours des deux dernières années. Elle a travaillé avec Edifice Dance Theatre, également en tant que chorégraphe des mouvements dans des spectacles marginaux et elle est maintenant la directrice du drame radiophonique immersif « Désolé de vous réveiller » (‘Sorry did I wakeyou’).
« Je suis très enthousiasmée par la nouvelle forme de résidence. J’ai eu beaucoup de chance de pouvoir travailler avec des artistes de milieux culturels différents et je suis sûre que j'apprendrai beaucoup d'eux. Enfin, je souhaite que nous tous, les participants, travaillions ensemble sur un projet, sur une seule idée avec de nombreuses voix différentes. »

Patricia Woltmann

Patricia Woltmann is a German choreographer/dancer based in Berlin. In her choreographic practice she explores concepts related to the transformative capability of the body, memory and communication. Patty`s latest work "To: my future body" was presented at KW Institute of Contemporary Art, Berlin (2019). In the past four years she researched the question of the body as an archive – focusing on how collective memory and individual body memory relate to each other - interlaced with the notion of presence and absence of history, memory and life. For this residency at Kinitiras she is interested in exploring the visionary potential of the body, projecting a future. How do we navigate transitions, how are conversions physically embodied and culturally framed. How do we end and/or begin something? How can a mass of bodies affect changes within the public realm? Bodies are more important than words, bodies speak directly. Time is now and bodies are us.

Patricia Woltmann
Patricia Woltmann est une chorégraphe / danseuse allemande basée à Berlin. Dans sa pratique chorégraphique, elle explore des concepts liés à la capacité du corps, de la mémoire et de la communication de se transformer. Le dernier travail de Patty "To:my future body" (À: mon corps futur) a été présenté au KW Institut d’Art Contemporain (Institute of Contemporary Art), à Berlin (2019). Au cours des quatre dernières années, elle a étudié la question du corps en tant qu’archive- en se concentrant sur la relation entre la mémoire collective et la mémoire corporelle individuelle - entrelacée avec la notion de présence et d'absence d'histoire, de mémoire et de vie. Pour cette résidence à Kinitiras, elle s'intéresse à l'exploration du potentiel visionnaire du corps, projetant un avenir. Comment naviguer dans les transitions, comment les conversions sont-elles physiquement incarnées et culturellement encadrées ? Comment terminer et / ou commencer quelque chose ? Comment une masse de corps peut-elle influer sur les changements au sein du domaine public ? Les corps sont plus importants que les mots, les corps parlent directement. Le temps est maintenant et les corps sont nous.
